About Us

The children are at the heart of everything we do at Buttercross Pre-School, and we believe that a child centred, play based curriculum will support the children in all areas of their development and foster a lifelong love of learning. We operate an ‘anything is possible’ ethos here and the children are encouraged to believe that they can do, make and learn about anything that interests them. Our fantastic educators are skilled in joining your child in their play and scaffolding their learning while they are immersed in activities and play that is meaningful to them. Interesting topics, opportunities and open-ended resources ensure that the children grow and thrive while here with us. We adapt activities and our teaching to suit all children’s ages and abilities, thus ensuring that all children make good progress and are ready to move into full time education when they leave here.

We work to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as set out by the Department of Education. The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

Children should mostly develop the three prime areas first. These are:

    • Communication and language;
    • Physical development; and
    • Personal, social and emotional development

These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning. As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:

    • Literacy;
    • Mathematics;
    • Understanding the world; and
    • Expressive arts and design.

We pride ourselves on building excellent relationships with your children and your families and love to encourage parents to join us in various fundraising and fun events that we hold through the year.
As Bingham’s only charitable not-for-profit preschool, we rely on fundraising to help us to keep our costs to the parents low and to ensure that the children can access good quality educational resources all the time. We can’t thank our current and past parents and families enough for supporting us and to our local businesses and community who always support our fundraising efforts.
