About Us

The Buttercross Pre-school opened its doors over 30 years ago and in this time has grown from strength to strength to become a well established setting with an excellent reputation.  The Pre-school is located in a residential area close to the centre of the village/town of Bingham, operating from within The Robert Miles Infant School, School Lane, Bingham.

Through our excellent team of experienced staff, our aim is to provide a safe, caring, happy and stimulating environment for all children placed in our care.  We care for children from a range of economic and cultural backgrounds from Bingham aswell as surrounding villages. We support children who have special educational needs and English as an additional language.

We work closely with Bingham Robert Miles Infant School and have an excellent relationship with both the Head teacher and staff.  This invaluable relationship with the school ensures that our pre-school children, particularly those going through to Robert Miles Infants, are comfortable with the school setting as a whole and provides a seamless transition into full-time education.

We work to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as set out by the Department of Education. The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first.
These are:

  • Communication and language;
  • Physical development; and
  • Personal, social and emotional development

These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.

As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy;
  • Mathematics;
  • Understanding the world; and
  • Expressive arts and design.

The Buttercross Pre-School is a registered  charity (No: 1027894), OFSTED inspected – the latest report can be viewed by visiting   We are also members of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.
